Key Points
Alternative prices can be made as an adjustment to your standard sales price e.g. 10% discount, or can create a new price altogether (price override) that you can set per item.
You can delete an alternative price but edits are not yet available - so plan your price sets carefully before setting them up and adding to items.
There is no indication of an alternative price being applied on receipts - it will only show the new price.
Alternative Sales prices are not available as yet for Bustle Online.
We'd love to hear your feedback on how to best report on alternative prices.
“Alternative prices? Cool… but why?” We're glad you asked - here’s how some of our cleverest clogs are using them...
Detailed Steps - Create your Alternative Prices
The Landing Page
Head to Setup > Alternative Sales Prices
When you first arrive on the page, you'll see an example of how alternative prices appear on an item for the Bustle till app, as well as a breakdown of the two types of prices you can create, and a few examples you can use to get started.
Step 1 - Create your Alternative Sales Price Options
Click one of the options at the bottom or use one of the examples to get started.
There are two kinds of prices, depending on your needs
Sales Price Adjustments
A percentage-based tweak of the original sales price. Use these ones for discounts, surcharges, or tax-free items.Price Overrides
A fixed price that replaces the original price. Use these for things like Happy Hour, staff meals, or limited-time specials, where you want to enter in a price manually.
Let's break them down...
Sales Price Adjustments
Use this option if you want to make % adjustments to the existing sales price of the item when adding it to an order. (surcharge/discount/tax free)
Press the Create a Sales Price Adjustment button on the landing page or once you have one set up, press this button to create more...
Press Save
Your new alternative price variation will appear and can now be added to items (see below for bulk adding to items).
Note: To make a tax free item price, simply add a new variation, name it and select the 0% tax free rate, then press save.
Price Overrides
Use this option if you want a new price for your items that is not based on the original sales price. e.g. Set price offers - every cabinet item is $5.
Press the New Price Override button.
Name your new price so it makes sense to your team.
Select the tax rate required
Press Save
Your new Price Override will appear and can now be added to items (see below for bulk adding to items).
Step 2 - Add your Prices to Items
Adding prices in bulk
To add your alternative prices to items press the Manage Items button.
There is one button to manage all Sales Price adjustments, but price overrides are managed separately (so press Manage Items on each price override)
The Manage Items page will open.
Here you can search for items, filter by category, select the alternative prices you want to manage, or press the Add all button to see the full list.
Once you have made your selections the item list will populate.
Here, we have selected coffee items, and added both our alternative sales prices. The base Sales price will be on the left, followed by your alternative prices.
Here we can:
Press Apply to add the price to an individual item
Use the Apply to all button to add in bulk (or Remove from all)
Press With Price to display all the items that have the price applied.
Press Without Price to display all the items that don't yet have the price applied.
Note that there is a limit of 50 items you can apply a price to at a time. You can click through the pages at the bottom, or use the Without Price button filter to remove the items that have already been completed.
Adding prices in Bulk for Price Overrides
The process is essentially the same for Overrides as it is for Adjustments, with one difference. As Price Overrides need you to enter a new price manually, when you apply a price override in bulk to items, it defaults the price to your Base Sales price. Click into the override price field and edit it as needed.
Adding prices to items from the Item editor
You can also add prices to items from within the Item record itself
Head to Setup > Item Editor and select an item you want to add the new prices to.
Once in the edit screen of an item you will see the new prices available to add.
Click the prices you wish to add. For any Price Overrides, click to add and then enter in the price for that option. Save the item to apply.
In this example we have added the two options that are Sales Price Adjustments, as well as the Price Override option for a cabinet sale. The options now show as added to the item and display the price and GP%. We have manually entered the price of $5 for the Cabinet sale.
Adding Alternative Prices to Mods
Any Mods added to items will automatically be included in the calculations for Sales price Adjustments, but will not be included for any Price Overrides.
If you want a mod to follow the price rules for alternative prices you can do so by manually adding the Price override to the mods.
Let's look at the example of the Cabinet Sale price override.
Let's say the Chocolate Muffin came with an optional Flake chocolate bar for an extra dollar, but for the cabinet sale you only wanted to charge 0.50. You can open up the Flake mod, add Cabinet Sale and change the price of it there, for when the Cabinet Sale price is used.
Other than this scenario there is no need to add or remove alternative prices. Mods will follow the price settings on the item
Step 3 - Sync your menu and select your prices on items when needed
Head to Settings > Sync Menu on all of your Bustle Tills to bring down the alternative prices
On the items you have added alternative prices to you will now see them under a section called Price Options when you press the item. They will display the alternative price name and amount.
And here's what it looks like with the Flake mod added from the example above when you press Cabinet Sale...
And when you press the Friends and Fam discount...
Deleting Alternative Prices
Removing an alternative price from an item
On the item edit page, click the x on the price you want to remove.
Sync your menu on all Bustle Tills to remove the price.
Or use the Bulk editing tool by pressing the Manage Prices button and use the Remove function.
